As you may have gathered, I’m called Kitty and I write. You’ve found my ‘blog about books and thoughts’.

To elaborate, then. I’m called Kitty and I’m a student. I study linguistics. I enjoy reading and thinking. I also have a history of dabbling in the whole range of humanities subjects, I like maths but am too lazy to learn the nitty-gritty, and I play music when I have the time.

I write. I’ve kept a diary for the past ten years of my life - I was encouraged to start it as a way to improve literacy, but it quickly evolved into a hobby where I record thoughts on any and everything I come across. For periods in my young life I wanted to be a novelist. I now hold that to be rather misguided, as I don’t actually have a great impulse for generating make-believe. I do have an impulse for writing, though, for communication and for the aesthetic use of words.

My writing is important to me, and I want to hone it. By nature of doing a humanities degree, there are in my life academic writing of significant quantity and various guise. But I also want to explore how to wield words outside of the academic context. I’d like to get a better sense of how I communicate, when I’m not writing an essay to be marked or keeping a diary about myself to myself by myself.

Enter this blog of sorts. Admittedly it’s one of those pandemic-boredom blogs, but my ideation preceded the pandemic’s actual onset. No-one really reads this blog, but that’s kind of beside the point. I created it to be a dumping-ground of sorts for my writing. I am writing less to be read than simply to have written. To have written to communicate to others rather than simply record for myself, and so I can collate these into a log of my efforts.
